There’s only a month left of school and I still don’t think I have the routine down pat. Waking up isn’t any easier. Bedtime is sometimes still chaotic. I still am reading the letters that get sent home last minute and sending them back late. I feel like I’ve been a pretty flaky parent.
We’ll go through spurts where I feel like I’m doing great with getting dinner out early (that is the key I’m finding--an early dinner) getting homework done and packing lunches for the next day. But throw in dance practice or girl scouts and I’m out of wack again.
This was one of those afternoons where I threw caution to the wind and said “alright kids, let’s have a picnic outside!” Nevermind that we just finished dinner and should have been starting baths. After nearly a week of rain and crummy weather it was nice to get outside and play together. We grabbed some of our favorite snacks and juice and tried cloud spotting. You know, where you name what you see in the sky.
My son pointed out what he saw as train tracks, daughter said she spotted organs--A heart, and muscles up in the sky, which I found a little odd.
As the sun set past their bedtime I brought them inside and quickly finished getting ready for bed. I knew we’d be paying for the late evening the next morning, but it was worth it.
